Ok, its time I share the love. Sometimes we read a book, see a movie or have a conversation that alters the course of our life dramatically. Whoa. Isn’t it exciting to think one of those life altering events could be just around the corner for you? So one such moment for me was reading, or I should say listening to the audio version of, The 4-Hour Work Week by Timothy Ferriss. I was given the copy at a time when I’d been going through the motions at 9 to 5 jobs for a few years. The voice in my head that said I didn’t want to do this anymore was getting louder and louder, difficult to ignore. But I didn’t know what else to do. Everyone around me seemed to think this was the right path, the responsible path. I needed new insight, and I needed something practical, not just theoretical.
I’m thinking about this book particularly now because I think of what an amazing turn my life has taken in the two years since I first read it. I was at a dinner party last night chatting with some amazing people who were intrigued by the idea of me starting my own company doing something I really love. When people want to know how I did it, I tell them to start with The 4-Hour Work Week. Not because Mr. Ferriss has all the answers or I agree with everything the book has to say, but the author has a way of breaking down those initial mental barriers that keep us from going after our dreams. He understands that our thoughts and our attitude are better determiners of our success than money, IQ or fame. And that’s good news. That is something you can adjust.
With a new decade just around the corner this may be the right time for you to sit down with this book and let it rock your world. Who knows where you will be this time next year…
