Thanking the Pasta Guy

My roommate makes ravioli for a living. He works in the research and development kitchen of a huge food company, and he’s created some pretty amazing stuff. The other day I was telling him about one of the fabulous emails that we received from a Within fan who loves our shirts. He said that he gets fan mail, too! This surprised me. It’s not that I don’t believe that his pasta is worthy of praise, but I was amazed by the effort that it must’ve taken to get those compliments back to him. That means that someone was so inspired by their yummy dinner that they felt compelled to let my roommate’s company know about it. And not only that, but they actually took action, went to the company website, and sent off their message via the mysterious “Contact Us” link. Plus, this email worked its way through cyberspace and didn’t fall through the cracks at any point during its travels through this behemoth company. And at long last the praise actually made it back to my roommate! And what did one of the emails say? It said his ravioli was a “taste of heaven, made by angels.”

I think this is incredible. Prior to hearing this, I don’t think I ever would have considered “thanking the pasta guy.” I just never would’ve dreamed that sending off an email to a giant corporation would actually get read, much less make it to the person it was supposed to! It’s been a great reminder and lesson in gratitude. There are so many miracles in our lives – small and large – and we have the opportunity to give thanks for all of them.
