I absolutely love traveling. Everything about it! I love being in a new place where everything is just slightly different. Folks smile and interact differently, the air smells different, the landscape is different, the chain stores are different, even the insects are different. It is such an amazing way to get out of my head and remember that there is always a whole big world going on out there. It also reminds me to not make assumptions about “how things are” and realize that social perceptions are just that, perceptions.
My favorite part of our trip to Boulder was a moment in rain. As the drops came down harder and harder and folks ran for shelter we crowded under our booth’s tent trying to patch up holes like a sinking ship. Across the way from our spot was a man crouching next to a woman in a wheel chair holding an umbrella over her head. His entire back side was completely soaked in freezing rain but he kept that umbrella over his lovely lady. It was a darling moment of true and simple love. After we all took in the site we stopped trying to stay dry and relaxed into our drenched fate. The rain can sometimes bring out the best in people.
